Temperature such as a balmy 75 degrees, snow storms, or just a lazy hazy crazy days of summer work wonders to get the reader in the mood.

Stephen Tremp
Author – Breakthrough: The Adventures of Chase Manhattan
http://www.stephentremp.blogspot.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565536117447494278.post-78028229870475948082009-05-28T07:21:05.655-07:002009-05-28T07:21:05.655-07:00Good things to think about. I tend to use dialogues.

In Quest of Theta MagicEnid Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12248877161249788607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565536117447494278.post-63646087243157546302009-05-26T23:24:59.151-07:002009-05-26T23:24:59.151-07:00Sorry about your bag that went AWOL but the confer...Sorry about your bag that went AWOL but the conference sounded great!

I suppose the climate (weather) might be an influence on the setting (it was a dark and stormy night, lol) as well as the population (in a small town, like Elizabeth suggested, fewer suspects whereas a larger metropolis gives the bad guy more chances to blend in with the crowd, more places to hide)

Interesting perspective.

Nancy, from Just a Thought…N A Sharpehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09535316802416841336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565536117447494278.post-53814280638595441502009-05-26T18:44:05.138-07:002009-05-26T18:44:05.138-07:00Interesting way to think about location. In cozy mysteries, the setting is usually smaller or closed off in some way (like the old manor house murders in remote locations for Agatha Christie mysteries.) This allows for fewer suspects and more tension between the characters.

Dialect is also important for my mysteries since I use a Southern setting.

Thanks for the post,

Elizabeth
Mystery Writing is MurderElizabeth Spann Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15625595247828274405noreply@blogger.com
